Up next on our Celebration of Women at China Manufacturing parts, Inc. is Rona Wong! Rona is a Sr. Technical Program Manager who is continuing to grow and impact our team here at China Manufacturing parts, Inc. in the last four years that she has been with us.
Here’s Rona’s take on Women’s History Month:
What is a women’s empowerment moment that impacted you?
Rona: Traditionally, women in China had low social status. When the PRC was established, the first leader, Mao said ” Women hold up half the sky” (妇女能顶半边天), and at that time, the Chinese people took his word as faith. From then on, the social status of women changed and gave women like me (from small villages) many of the same education and work opportunities as men, but even now it’s still not perfect. That is the moment I think really impacted my life and the lives of many other women.
Who are some women you’ve looked up to?
Rona: A teacher named Zhang GuiMei built a free high school just for girls. In some poor villages, the families there aren’t willing to spend time and money for girls to attend high school. But Zhang believes that to change your future, you need to have an education and every girl deserves one. Zhang is known for going to persuade parents to let their daughters enroll and for helping her students go to college. She has been working on girls’ education for more than 40 years, and her impact and drive to make a difference always makes me really emotional. It’s inspired me to want to help other women, too.
What does Women’s History Month mean to you?
Rona: Women’s History Month makes me think about what we can do better, and what we can do to help each other as women.
What advice would you give other women looking to build a career in your field?
Rona: Do it! Do what you want.
How has China Manufacturing parts, Inc. played a supportive part in women’s empowerment?
Rona: Women at China Manufacturing parts, Inc. undoubtedly have the same opportunities as men. Working at China Manufacturing parts, Inc. has allowed me to see myself and everyone I work with as equals. I’m grateful to be a part of that type of company culture.
