Industry News
- Intuitive Surgical has received FDA clearance for their da Vinci X robotic-assisted surgical system.The new system assists surgeons and hospitals using voice and laser guidance, drape design that simplifies surgery prep, and a lightweight, fully integrated endoscope. - Lockheed Martin is building a full-scale prototype space habitat, in the second phase of the Next Space Technologies for Exploration Partnerships (NextSTEP) program in partnership with NASA.The habitat will be housed at the Space Station Processing Facility at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. - Media is abuzz about the launch of Tesla Model 3 this week. Business Insider has an insider look at what it takes to be an engineer at Tesla, from former Tesla Engineer Hokuto Ueda, who was on the team that took the Model S from prototype to delivery. [via Business Insider]
Hardware Knowledge
- When transitional from hydraulics or pneumatics to electromechanical motion, roller screw actuators are usually the best choice. Design World has a great guide on the design of roller screws and inverted roller screws, and their applications. [via Design World]
